Puyol Ikut Selamatkan Orangutan Kalimantan

BARCELONA - Karena gaya rambutnya yang keriwil serta penampilannya yang rada urakan, membuat Carles Puyol dijuluki Tarzan. Itu hanya salah satu dari beberapa julukannya di lapangan hijau, selain The Wall, Capitan, dan Lionheart.

Tampaknya, julukan Tarzan cukup tepat bagi Puyol. Sosok Tarzan dikenal sebagai raja hutan, sahabat dan pelindung bagi satwa di hutan. Puyol pun melakukan aksi serupa, dia ikut ambil bagian dalam pelestarian satwa, terutama orang utan.

Puyol memberikan dukungan penuh kepada kampanye penyelamatan orang utan. Kepeduliannya ditunjukkan dengan menyetujui namanya dipakai untuk kampanye penyelematan orangutan. Dia juga tampil dalam poster yang dibuat International Animal Rescue (IAR) dan Great Apes Survival Partnership (GRASP).

Ya, dalam poster kampanye penyelamatan orang utan bertuliskan : "I care, Do You?" Selain itu, ada juga iklan di mana Puyol mengatakan : "Mereka penting bagi saya. Bagaimana dengan Anda" bunyi pernyataan yang dilontarkan Puyol di akun Twitter-nya, @Carles5Puyol

Kampanye terus digenjot untuk mengindari kepunahan orang utan yang sekarang diperkirakan tinggal berjumlah 66 ribu. Diprediksi, bila tidak dilakukan penyelamatan, maka dalam 20 tahun ke depan, orang utan bisa punah.

"Keadaan orang utan merupakan masalah yang menyentuh buat saya. Saat ditanyakan apakah bersedia mendukung, saya tidak pernah ragu. Waktu terus berjalan bagi kera raksasa itu, saya bangga menjadi bagian dari upaya menyelamatkan mereka," kata Puyol, di situs resmi IAR, seperti dikutip Goal.

Harapan besar ditumpukan kepada Puyol. Direktur IAR Karmele Llano Sanchez berharap, bergabungnya Puyol akan menarik perhatian banyak orang. Dia menjelaskan, orang utan yang habitat aslinya di Kalimantan, Indonesia, mengalami kesulitan berkembang karena hutan telah dihancurkan untuk perkebunan kelapa sawit dan berbagai kepentingan ekonomi lain. Akibatnya, orang utan malah banyak yang dibantai.

"Sepak bola adalah olahraga penting di Indonesia. Carles Puyol adalah sosok yang dikenal, karena merupakan kapten Spanyol, juara dunia. Dengan sosok terkenal seperti dia, bisa menyebarkan pesan kami lebih luar kepada generasi tua dan muda di Indonesia," kata Sanchez
